On Back Pain, Laziness and Lame Ass Excuses

OK...I suppose I left off on my last post with a bit of an ominous tone. And a cheesy grin.

Seriously, I'm doing great. Well...at least adequate.

I thought that I'd pop in and reassure the two or three readers I have left that I'm not pushing up daisies. Thanks for the concern shown via comments, phone and email.

In the past *checks back to when he last posted* 36 days I've managed to stay out of the hospital. The first couple of weeks of that time frame were taken up with my sister's visit from Edmonton. Our AHL hockey team began their season and I went to 5 home games in 11 nights.

I've visited my Dr. again once, had another blood test and been to see a physiotherapist 5 times. I was hoping to come back with some cool pics of my liver from an ultrasound. However I can't be scheduled in until January so the organ will have to remain a mystery for a while longer (anybody...did that sound weird?). Perhaps it's kidney shaped instead of liver shaped. All this internal organ discussion has got me a bit hungry. All we need now are some mashed potatoes and fried onions and we'd be all set.

With all the time out of the office I find myself playing 'catch-up' after hours, sometimes until 7pm.

This is not a picture of me...
My back is still bothering me quite a bit. So much so that I'm still keeping away from basketball. The geezers aren't too concerned as I'm not the only one off with an injury (fondly referred to as 'broke' in the circle of the elderly). My main concern is that I"m probably the topic of conversation when they head out for beers after the game.

I'm still waiting for those exercises I was shown at physio to start working for me. Damn voodoo. I even purchased a new office chair hoping for better back support. At that price it should have come with a codeine dispenser. Now THAT would have been useful.

I suspect my sense of humour departed the same time I went to the emergency with the fever and chills. A general laziness has set in (yes, a special laziness...one much more consuming than my usual laziness). Perhaps my humour, and ambition, will soon return.

I will stop whining now, wipe away the drool dripping from the corner of my mouth and shamble into the living room. It's Wednesday night and Survivor is on TV soon. Oops! Did I say that. I only meant to think it.

Be back soon...well, at least sooner than 36 days.

The boy's report card is coming home by the end of the week. Hmm...perhaps something blog-worthy...

No, you have NOT lost your sense of humour. Just as funny as always and even more appreciated for your lack of attendance.
Sorry about your poor old geezerly back. That codeine dispenser sounds like a wickedly awesome idea. I'd buy it for sure! You really need to buy the boy one of those thumping machines and have him run it up and down your 'broke' back once in a while.
Did I just say 'broke' back? Sorry, distracted...
Glad to have you back!!!

So glad to see you I left the same comment twice.

I'm reading along, catching up on poor Alan, and then I got to this:

Damn Voodoo.

And I almost tipped my wine. You know how I feel about wasting wine.

It's good to see you back in print form, Mr. Davidson. Maybe you should hire someone to walk on that broke back of yours (no cowboy jokes, I swear) - you know, like on the Jeffersons. Maybe a good character building chore for the boy.

Argh, poor Alan! (Still hilarious, but broke.) Well, good to hear from you, and hopefully it won't be long before next time. You are missed!

I do commiserate - back pain is HELL! Especially when nothing seems to make a difference
:-(

I trust we'll be hearing more positive news from you soon.

I can't think of any witty 'sign-off' (early in the day here and I'm still getting used to the pull of gravity after crawling out if bed) but keep on smiling, whatever - it confuses people!

(re-posted with corrected spellings - damned phone :-/)

Egads, man. Hope all is on the mend. My wife has chronic back issues... Ugh.

And report cards are almost always blog worthy.

You robbed me of my opener by captioning the photo with "this is not a picture of me..."

I'm expressing via the tinfoil hat highway much warmth and healing hugs.

take care of you boy-o-me-lad

Yes, once the sense of humour leaves, there's nothing left to do but skive off somewhere with a good book.

Glad to hear you are doing better and looking forward to pics of the mysterious liver.

Cathy- Thanks for the kind words. And, umm...the whole 'broke back' thing hadn't occured to me while writing the blog post.

Thanks for bringing that up...

Laurita- Yikes! God forbid you should tip over the medicinal wine!

Back walking...an option I hadn't thought of before. I shall be posting an ad in the Telegram soon. I'm sure the list of applicants would be blog worthy.

Katey- Thanks! BTW, I like that new profile photo of you.

Sue- So the deleted comment was YOU. Probably wanted to remove something dirty. I like that sentiment..."keep on smiling, it confuses people!" Perhaps I'll get that tattood on my...

Gigi- A sign of a good day--when one stays out of a hospital.

Aaron- I hope that I'm headed in the right directions *crosses fingers*. Hope your wife's back isn't too much of an issue these days.

Karen- Yeah, the photo caption was a pre-emptive strike against wits like yourself!

Also, many thanks for the tinfoil warm greetings. I can feel the positve vibes.

Danielle- Yes...I shall go into hiding with the LOTR trilogy and a box of wine! Guess that wine won't help my liver look beautiful for it's picture, will it?

January? That is a trouble of a wait. I'm sorry for you, Alan, and hope you get to the bottom of these back troubles soon. Mine's been swelling up lately and it's simply no fun.

Okay, I saw a witty comment you made on another blog and... well, and the fact that you have a fine looking beard, which is what my beard aspires to be. Then this post, which of course drove me to the previous post.

Usually I am not keen on reading of others ailments and tribulations -- I have enough problems of my own. But you discussion of your dire emergency and the follow up was was downright entertaining. So much so that now I am stuck as one your followers, or members, or whatever it is.

Get better. That's my advice.

Feel better, and keep on staying out of that hospital!

BTW I know a great massage therapist LOL

I'm sorry you're broke. Get fixed.

The above sentences could be taken many different ways - feel free to take them in the way which amuses you most.

Pearl- Thanks for the visit. Hopefully the back will get better.

John- I hope you can sort out your back issues as well.

Jerry- I've grown quite attached to my beard over the years (and the early greyness). I try not to bore folks with ailments but figured I had to pipe up with a blog post explaining why I wasn't posting of late. And thanks for the advise, sir. And welcome!

baygirl- I plan to keep away from the hospital! And welcome back to The Rock, BTW.

Elspeth- Thank you kindly. I shall seek out a fixer. Sorry I haven't dropped by your blog recently. I've been hiding in a dark room, licking my wounds.
