Bring on the Bloodsport

Yes, fair readers, it's that time of year again. When all Canadian work places (and some American) begin to pour over lists of hockey player names in hopes of putting together that winning squad...the team that will win you a crap-load of money give you lots of fun and possible glory among your hockey-worshiping co-workers. And remember, friends, that gambling is illegal in most countries and we should not partake ;)

Instead of putting together characters and scenes for my NaNo story, I will be pouring over pages of statistics trying to decide who is worthy of my selection. Shall it be Ovechkin over Crosby (note that I had opportunity to watch Sid the Kid play in the Memorial Cup tournament in London in 2005, and he is well worth the price of admission should he be appearing in a metropolis near you) or shall I select Zetterberg over Thornton. The choices are endless.

As noted on other blogs, it's Natalie Sin's birthday today. In her honour I hold up a cup and toast her greatness. The attached photo below, which was indeed from Slap Shot (as were the Hanson's above), will have to suffice as I scoured the Internet for the video footage of his strip tease to no avail.

Let the season begin! The fights, the blood, the madding crowds (who must all be millionaires to afford the tickets), and the occasional bit of actual hockey.

Even though I'm from Kansas, I (heart) ice hockey. Awesome sport.

I won $82 in a Canada Dry ice hockey contest once, so I've had affection for the sport ever since (well, $82 worth of affection).

I don't think I've ever seen a game of ice hockey. Looks bloody. :D

I kid you not, my word verification was mounti... Of course it isn't now as I came back to tell you. Let's try again.

Logan- Hey, thanks.

Elspeth- Luckily we were only going to Jr. hockey games at $14 a ticket instead of NHL games at $60 and up for the 'nose bleeds'. Yeah, the games get a bit rought (that may have had something to do with why I never played).

Aaron-I love to watch it too. Sadly, our JR. team (St. John's Fog Devils) folded a couple of years ago.

KC-I like winning stuff too!

Cate-Quite a cultural thing that you're missing. I know that there's the English National Ice Hockey League )Manchester Phoenix is in the northern division. Guess it's sort of overshadowed by the premier league football thing...

Slap Shot is one of my favourite films.

..and I also own all the Mighty Ducks movies on DVD... but I generally don't advertise that fact...

HAHA a MOST appropriate birthday photo for Natalie Sin. I love it.

And yay for Sid the Kid. (I'm legally obligated as someone from within 30 minutes of Pittsburgh to say that, you realize.)

It all sounds pretty intense, but heaps of fun.

Darn it, I know I left a note here! I must have forgotten to do the verification word : (

I think the note said, "Mmm, those man panties leave just enough to the imagination"

I know, I'm a poet ; )

Anton-I understand ex-NHL star Theoren Fleury played a season with the Belfast Giants a few years back. Did you ever go watch a game?

Katey-I was wondering if you were a Pengiun supporter or a Philly fan...or a Capitals fan (ex-Capital great Dale Hunter is the coach/owner of the London Knights whom we used to watch).

Danielle-It gives the Canadians something to do in winter aside from shovelling snow and drinking beer.

Natalie-You have a way with words...and certainly know your skimpy male undergarments.
