Odds and Sods

I can't really think about what to post on this morning, so I've got a mish-mash of comments and observations...

  • Following the last post about NaNoWriMo, I have started putting together some notes on my idea to see if coming up with 50k words is feasible.
  • I was going to participate in the book shelf meme that has been floating about the blogoverse the past few days (since Aaron Polson generously tagged everyone and their pets). Surprisingly, I can't find books starting in the letters 'A', 'I' or 'N'. To get around this, I have been considering having my name legally changed...

  • The weather here doesn't normally go above 25 during the summer (that would be degrees 'C' for my American friends, about 80F if my mental calculator serves). They say to grow tomatoes here, you have to keep them in a greenhouse--locally, that is a light wooden frame covered in plastic. We haven't been doing that, opting to bring them in at night. We were surprised to find this morning that a couple of the cherry tomatoes have turned red and look ready to eat. These were given to us earlier in the summer and, sadly, nobody in our family likes tomatoes. Perhaps the dog will eat them?

    • Umm, this story is for the talented Natalie Sin: The morning show folks are always good for a laugh. The lady announcer has a pet pug called Pierre. It's apparently 4yrs old today and she will be making a cake for it's birthday. She also has bought a Halloween costume for the dog...a hot dog outfit...*sighs* Perhaps I'm a bit jaded on the whole dressing-up-your-dog-thing as I was once a cross-dresser dog catcher in a former life (but that's another story). The dog attire business will yet again rear its ugly head as the annual "Greyhound Picnic" we will be attending this month will have a fashion show for folks to dress up their lanky dogs.

I guess for not having anything to say this morning, I sort of rambled on a bit.

    Don't like tomatoes? Sacrilege...

I thought that meme was for last names...

And you had a variety of subjects too... :) I'm always amazed at the dogs who will put up with costumes. I guess they must get used to it? Mine won't wear a hat long enough to snap a picture.

I agree with you Alan, on the dog costume issue. I would never dress Lance up in anything. It would be an insult to the noble Border Collie breed. Lol.

Precious few Ns in my collection, too. Strange, that. Poor puppy.

Anton- You are correct...it was for last names, but the books had to be on your bookshelf (guess I was too brief in my description).

Laura- The dogs that sit still long enough for pictures are probably drugged, or mental, or have suffered a brain injury of some sorts...

Kat- Ooh, Border Collie. We had Shelties when I was growing up (had 2 litters of pups as well).

Shelties are beautiful. I researched dog breeds for months before we got Lance. I wanted a good companion for my boys. Shelties and Golden Retrievers were on my short list as well...

I dress my pug like Godzilla : )

Trust me, they love the attention they get. And by "attention" I mean treats.

Cherry tomatoes are one of the finest treats on Earth, if you ask me. I wish I could run up and grab them. Alas!

It's really weird to dress dogs up. My mom puts bandannas around her black lab's neck, and that seems okay, but otherwise it's a little strange. Then again, having an animal in the house is too, I guess, but that never stopped me!

I found the E in my name difficult...

I would never dress a dog up in clothes, but I have to say the pug looks cute.

Aaron-yeah, I can't even think of any N's, let alone find them in my library...I was going to use Harriet Beecher Stowe for my 'S'.

Kat-our son's allergic to cats & dogs, so we were originally looking at whippets, but to costly to get from mainland so we went with a greyhound from the rescue people here.

Natalie-Is dressing the pug up as godzilla worse than us dressing our boy up as Barney?

Katey- I would mail them to you, but we can both guess what they'd look like upon arrival.

Cate- A found a really cute one with a pug dressed and positioned like Marilyn Munroe...you know, with the dress. Alas, I couldn't upload that format.

While I'm no expert on children, I can say that dressing them up as Barney is probably illegal in most countries.

Note I didn't say to stop doing it.

I'm sure your dog will love the tomatoes. I grow tomato plants every year. All the time the tomatoes are green our dog, Wolfie, leaves then alone, but as soon as they turn red he sneaks up and gently plucks them from the plant and eats them. I grew yellow ones this year to fool him. It worked. He didn't go near them!!

Nothing wrong with rambling - just look at the majority of my posts ;c)

And dressing up a dog is just wrong.

Good luck putting together the idea for November!

Natalie-I'll listen to your sage advise and keep dressing him up...mind you, he's nearing 14 and will put up a fight!

Mercedes- Thanks for the kind words.

Akasha- Wolfie sounds sneaky...that's funny, though, as the second plant that only has 3 green tomatoes is a yellow tomato plant.

BT-I'm with you on not dressing up the dogs...got to show man's best friend an ounce of dignity.

the html tag for the strikeout is < del > word < / del > only without the spaces! The comment box won't let me put in html. :)

    Walla! Word struck out!

I used to dress my Newfoundland dog up on Halloween. My favorite was the year we both dressed as hula girls. He was really nice about it.

You can get 50k words out of anything if you just add enough cowboys and Ninjas.

Ha! Bet that would take a lot of material to cover a Newfoundlander...glad to hear that he was co-operative (still don't want to dress up my greyhound. He's neurotic enough as it is).

Perhaps some sparkles with those cowboys and ninjas? I am encouraged in the fact that it would be a first draft and pretty much any sort of carp goes...) ps. thanks!
