Cracking the WIP

We have had a real potpourri of weather today--from overcast to pouring rain and then hail and then wet snow. The winds have been gusting to 140km/h.

Hello winter.

I seem to have had a recurrence of the plague-like symptoms of 3 weeks ago, with the addition of a bit of breathlessness. I hate going to see doctors, but a couple more days of this should have me motivated.

I haven't really had a writing project on the go for a number of weeks. A series of rejections really took the wind out of my sails. I have dusted off a semi-complete short story in hopes of finishing it before the start of NaNo. I'd like to submit it to Fifty-Two Stitches when their submissions reopen, appropriately, on Halloween. It will be a challenge cutting down what should be a 2000 word story to about 750 words or so. Aside from that, I'm still jotting notes and ideas into three separate notebooks (in different locations) in an attempt to better outline Metropolis, my NaNo story.

I know the editor over at Fifty-Two Stitches (kind of a lout, really), and he says cut all the adverbs. He likes shiny things, too. Like verbs. Shiny verbs.

Outlining the NaNo story is the real challenge. Good luck, sir.

I just added you to my buddy list at NaNo. I'm not sure what a buddy list is for, but I wanted you on it. ;)

Must... suppress urge....to nag...about....doctor.

Ok, I'm better now. But at least have some Korean chigae!

Don't trust the editor, Alan. I believe he actually likes very, very dark things... Good luck.

Bah, lame about the sickness recurring, Alan. Shortness of breath is so, so unpleasant. I once didn't go to the doctor for a while when I had it and I ended up getting pneumonia. Just saying. Totally hurt.

Now that I'm done being your mother or whatever, may I say good luck with the paring down of your story. 52 Stitches is great fun-- I hope to see it there next time!

Aaron-I will wield my red pen over the final product and say Goodbye evil adverbs and Hello vivid verbs (or something to that effect).

Laura-I guess the buddy list is to tell how many words you've got compared to all your friends...now you can all laugh at my lack of productivity!

Natalie-No Korean chigae around, can I substitute my standard coffee and jelly beans?

Cate-I bet the darker, the better for the Ed.

Katey-Yeah, I heard a lot of nagging from my mum over Thanksgiving: "Pass the gravy...you really should see a doctor about that cough," she said, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Thanks for the image of pneumonia as well, I'll add that to the thoughts of H1N1...

Hope you're feeling better, Alan. Rejections can indeed take the wind out of you. I reel for a couple of days then jump back in again.

Nano comes!

I hate going to doctors too. Hopefully your doctor will diagnose you with something minor enough that you'll be up and around shortly, but major enough that you absolutely must have a few days of complete rest and editing. Er, complete rest.

Haha! If I can cut one of my story's by half I'm sure you can! Don't let the rejections get you down, the way I look at it is this: every well-known writer has had his share of rejections, we have got to collect our quota before we get accepted. Each rejection you get sent is one more step closer to an acceptance.
And go to the doctors.....
