I Am Not Plugging This Product

I thought that I'd post a link to a commercial on YouTube. The link is here because I still haven't figured out how to embed the damn things in my blog.

I'm not a fan of Johnnie Walker Scotch but I am a fan of Robert Carlyle. I've followed the Scottish actor since his work in the TV series Hamish Macbeth, but he is better known for movies such as The Full Monty, Trainspotting, Angela's Ashes and Ravenous. Some may remember him as the villian Renard in the Bond movie The World is Not Enough. Someone sent us a link to a commercial. It's called "The Man Who Walked Around the World" and was shot earlier this year. I think that it's a great piece of work, obviously shot in one take and gives you a quick history of the Johnnie Walker dynasty. I like Carlyle because he takes on challenging, often despicable, characters. They are often crude, violent, and say all the things that we would like to but are too polite to do so.

It's over 6 minutes long, but the last minute is just rolling credits. If nothing else, watch it for a great view of the Scottish countryside (I believe that it was shot around Perth).

I have great respect for Robert Carlyle as an actor. He has shown ability in both drama and comedy (which is much harder to do, trust me).

Great views of the Scottish countryside are never a bad thing. Thanks for posting this!

I loved his stint on Cracker, a Brit detective show. I think he's on Stargate Universe now?

I love everything Robert Carlyle is in, he's such a good actor. He was recently in an excellent TV drama here in England...but I've forgotten the name of the damn thing! :)

I love Angela's Ashes.

Robert Carlyle as Begbie in Trainspotting changed my f@#king life. I'd never seen anything like him before, and I was hooked.

That's an awesome ad-- I'm not a huge fan of JW either (actually I'm not a huge fan of scotch, but I've had a few recently that have tempted me to change that opinion), but it's effective on me anyhow.

Oh man, The Full Monty. Loved it. Beautiful country, beautiful ad. Makes me thirsty, and I don't even drink whiskey.

I loved Hamish Macbeth. It's a shame (for me, not him) that he's now working in the US.

Elspeth- I never acted in school (or anywhere else) as I was too shy.

Natalie-I kinda figured that would be your favourite movie ;)

Becca-I remember that Cracker episode (I like Robbie Coltrane too) where he was a a psycho football (soccer) fan.

Akasha-He's done a lot of small, independant stuff. I looked up IMDB and see he was in a UK movie about the health care system called The Unloved.

Katey-Yeah, Trainspotting was amazing. I don't drink much, but it's usually scotch (it's effective on me too ;)

Aaron-The Full Monty had a great underlying message (guys had to get something out of it). Perhaps we should arrange a meeting of the Aaron Polson Fan Club in Scotland in a few years...

Cate-I thought Hamish was great. When Sean was a baby we went to Scotland and left him with an old auntie for three days while we went up to Inverness and then west to Kyle of Lochalsh where the series was shot. A great little trip.
