Holiday Madness

It's now been two weeks since completing the NaNo for this year and I'm yet to revisit the story. I simply stopped after achieving my goal, even though it requires at least another 15-20K to finish.

I believe that I'm using the holiday madness season as an excuse not to get back to it again. We got the last batch of cards out today; the ones to points in North America. The cards to my family in Britain, Australia and New Zealand went out a week ago.

We also got the holiday Christmas tree up yesterday. Up, but yet to be decorated. It's one of those tall ones from Costco with about 1000 small lights wound within its branches. That would be different than the 'Thousand points of light' once mentioned by you-know-who (personally, I liked it better when Dana Carvey said it...).

Yeah, back to the writing thing...I've had a couple of short story ideas over the past couple of weeks and jotted down a few notes to gather dust in the idea file. As of the 24th, I'll be off for 11 days so I hope, between stuffing my face with turkey and chocolate, to get some writing done.

I'll leave off with a picture of the boy and the dog. Jet looks smart in his Christmas attire (I will note here that it was not my idea) although somewhat demonic with his glowing eyes. And Sean is almost cracking a smile. It's the photo that was attached to Ginny's annual Christmas letter. Again, this is just the photo, I wouldn't want to bore you all with the family schtuff.

I can't wait until my boys are that age...Don't smile. Don't do it!

And the dog. Heh.

What a cute picture!

I haven't been doing much writing in the last few weeks either. That's what new year's resolutions are for, I guess.

Your son is at that age where almost smiling IS smiling. The dog, however, reminds me of the hounds of hell. I'd watch my back if I were you. You could be wearing that outfit next...just sayin'.

I am all about New years resolutions/procrastinations this year! More writing, less sugar, more exercise, less facebook, more writing, more writing, more writing! Starting January.

Your dog is so sweet, resigned to the humiliation of costumes. I love greyhounds.

Have a fabulous Christmas and New Year.

Cute kid, cute dog-- and that outfit is hilarious. Nothing wrong with a little time off to get your clock reset, especially after a month like November!

With the look on that dog's face I would lock your bedroom door at night. Just a suggestion.

A Christmas tree undressed is just a tree, Alan. And as for nearly a smile? Is it a smile or just two lips pushed together. Oh no, that's a kiss with someone else's lips.

So the great question of life maybe? When is a smile not a smile when it's a.....?

Answers on a postcard or in a comment box.

Happy Christmas with a ;-) smile, Alan!

Natalie, I admit the boy looks a little strange, but we love him anyway. Hey, post a photo of Roman on your blog when you get him dressed in his holiday attire.

Anton, Most guys feel like that at some time or another...

Aaron, I don't know when it all changed. He took such joyfull photos when he was little. Somebody flipped a magic switch at puberty.

KC, I would try a resolution to solve the problem, but would probably let myself down and make it worse. I gave 'em up years ago!

Laura, The dog is really layed back. I'm sure it's just a ploy to lull us into a false sense of security. I'm sure he'll make his move soon...

Debbie, I wouldn't want to be dressed up as Santa (or worse yet, an elf) so I'm sure the dog doesn't like it either. Yeah, not much grooming in a greyhound, eh? ;)

Cate, THanks and the same to you!

Katey, That's a good thought that I'm going to carry with me for a couple more weeks. December is always a blur for me (just as November was).

Elspeth, LOL...I will sleep lightly. Then again, he would probably lie on his dog bed and just stare at any intruder that broke into the house.

Jarmara, Thanks. I'll ponder that for a while. Merry Christmas to you and yours :0)

I like your style Alan. I've been through every excuse to not get back to my novel too, but there is something to be said about letting it 'cool'.
Good dog photo (funny about the son smiling)...we're actually going to surprise the kids with a puppy this year - I'm very excited.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule...which ever it is;)

This time of year we are all a little lax in the work department. The photo in your mascot banner is beautiful! Is that where you live?

Erin, Thanks. Yep, I'm all about excuses for not writing. I bet the kids will love the puppy to death (not in a horror story way) and it will be a lot of work for mom & dad. We had to teach the greyhound how to do stairs when we first got him.

Merry Christmas, etc. to you as well!

Michele, Thanks! (and welcome). The banner is a shot of somewhere along the coast here in Newfoundland. If you click on the top right photo of the iceberg you will access some cool photos of this island. A friend of mine's husband is a photographer here and has taken some stunning shots at various times of the year.

Alan, I actually saw the photo you are using on another blog...can't remember which...but it is a photo taken from the cliff at the lighthouse in Twillingate. That is where Terry is from.

Thanks, Debbie. We were at Twillingate a couple of years ago for a long weekend. It's really a beautiful area of the province.
