Contest Update and Indie Horror Link

The day was a bit of a loss as far as writing is concerned. I did, however, look through many of the entries to the Land's Edge flash fiction contest. Some very cool stuff submitted and a few very interesting interpretations of holidays. In the next couple of days I shall meet with Laurita Miller, of Brain Droppings fame, and our third judge to load up on coffee and pastries go over the entries and select the top three and the honourable mentions. I am looking forward to naming the winners later this week and posting them here during the week after.

There was little time to come up with a worthy post for today but, while I had a five course meal on the stove my wife slaved away making supper, I surfed the net for a bit. You know how it is...you go to a follower's blog and start looking at their followers and their blogs...next thing you know you've run into something that really catches your eye.

I'll link you to Unleash the Flying Monkeys!, a blog by Leah Saylor-Abney. A couple of weeks back she presented a post called 7 Must-See Indie Horror Movies about indie horror films that are in various stages of production. I have neither seen nor heard of any of these, but there are trailers attached and links to official websites for each movie. Enough there to whet the appetites of all you horror buffs. Strange, low-budget and gruesome...

Huh. Okay...I'll have to check them out.

But, you didn't answer the REAL burning question:

How was dinner??

I hear ya. I'm a fellow blog wanderer myself. Heading over now to check out those indie movies :)

And I quote... "Any holiday, festival, gala or fete will do."

So my entry based around Dropkick-A-Chihuahua day is perfectly valid, even if I'm the only one who celebrates it.

Hi Alan! Thanks for the link to my blog post :-) I really appreciate your spreading the word about those indie films and I know their creators thank you, too!

Kathryn- Dinner was fine...as fine as nuked chimichangas and reheated rice can be!

Danielle- You know that these low budget horrors are right up my alley.

Anton- You know what...your theme wasn't even the stangest...BTW in Canada, especially on the east coast, we prefer to dropkick Shih Tzus instead. It's a matter or availability.

Cate- I've never met a pastry I didn't like...

Leah- You're very welcome. It was a great post. I love watching idie movies. Some of them do way better than expected.

How did we waste time before the internet? And what even more intense timewaster is just around the corner? It's scary...

Hey Alan, how are you? I am fine. How are the monkeys? Are they still tied up or have you let them loose for a bit. I think Anton's idea for a holiday is very funny. My mother has a dog that is part Shish Tzus. It's also part Poodle. We call it a Shits-Poo.
I'm bored and I'm hungry and I'm tired and I wish you guys really had some pastries to munch on.... yes, K.C., how DID we waste time before the internet... probably busy drop-kicking Shits-Poos and eating danishes at Tim's.

Flying Monkeys? *shivers* Where's my shotgun?
(I live in Kansas, you know. That's like next door to Oz, right?)

Sorry, Alan .....and now I'm kicking myself (ow! OW!!!!) because I'd got 20th JULY in my head as the deadline for the contest. >:-(

Oh well, maybe next time.

But I'm looking forward to the results, anyway!

KC- I think lots of TV before the internet...

Cathy- Monkeys must remain tethered or else Aaron will shoot them from the sky as they fly over Lawrence, Kansas...

Katey- I hope they well-fed and caffeinated judges make the right selections. Hopefully the readers will be pleased with the results...

Anthony- You go, fellow movie buff!

Aaron- As noted to Cathy above, I fear for the monkeys. Hopefully they are not large enough to pluck small children from their yards...

Sue- Doh! Sorry the deadline snuck past you. Hope you enjoy what I post next week. Hmm...perhaps it will be an annual thing.
