I Wish I had a Turkey

I have heard tell of rumours saying that I had perished. All lies. I checked my pulse when I got up this morning and apparently my heart still beats. For a while, I hope. I have not fallen off the edge of the world either. If you subscribe to that train of thought. I have only arose from my premature hibernation state to wish my American friends a Happy Thanksgiving day. My concession to this was having stuffing foisted upon me enjoying a little Stovetop stuffing with my pork chop. You know, the kind you get from a box. Sawdust 'n Spice.

Why haven't I blogged lately? Well, I think that my humourous idea well has run dry. Or my funny bone is broken. Or something like that. I haven't run across many blog worthy topics of late and to be honest, I've been bogged down with work and a deadline for my current WIP (tomorrow) that I haven't had a lot of time to do much thinking. What am I saying? Not thinking...that's a good thing, isn't it?

We had something newsworthy happen here on 'The Rock'. Our premier Danny Williams tendered his resignation this morning (CBC story here). Apparently next Friday is his last day on the job and he plans to get out of the game while he's on top...he quoted the great Orson Welles on this...

"Orson Welles once said that if you want a happy ending, you need to know when to end your story. So I've called you here today to announce the end of my story as a ninth premier of Newfoundland and Labrador."

Danny Williams has plenty of friends in these parts and probably equally as many enemies. Love him or hate him, one has to admit that he may have been our most productive and controversial leader since our first premier, Joseph Smallwood, who brought Newfoundland into Confederation with Canada in 1949.

I think it's time for me to crawl back into my lair now. I return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Aw, you may come here and partake of real turkey, real stuffing even, quite welcome to help yourself to what appears to be forty-six pounds of leftovers.... If we don't have a sudden influx of visitors we will be eating Thanksgiving dinner until Christmas....

You, my friend, need not be funny to be interesting, however a deadline is ever so much more important.

Good luck with that, and stay away from that stove top stuffing stuff! Its just as easy to buy a bag of the 'real' stuff, make a small amount (directions on bag) and slide under a chicken breast. Pop it in the oven and you are good to go.

Happy Thanksgiving :}

Hey Alan! I was wondering about that pulse! Glad to see you peek out of the lair for a bit. Hope you come out to play more often!

Good description for StoveTop. Personally, I think it's a crime against nature - much like garden gnomes.

You're still here, Danny's gone. All is right with the world. :)

Joni- Nice offer...I shall take you up on that if I ever get off this Rock and hit the eastern seaboard. To be honest, I hate stuffing. But I shall keep you instructions in case, you know, I ever convert.

Cathy- Yeah, still here. T'was nice to get out of the lair. Though, I notice it's a lot colder now and it's dark before 5pm. I'm crawling back ino the den now.

Wendy- Har! Gnomes a crime against nature...do you mean the standard Travelocity gnome or those little garden jockeys that are a bit politically incorrect these days?

Laurita- Very true, my friend. All still here. Some are even celebrating, dancing jigs.

Nat- Agreed. We have a certain popular restaurant here (who shall remain unnamed) who make great pork chops, but spoil it with those nasty instant mashed potatoes...blech, indeed...

Aw, Alan. I don't think you've lost your mojo...(or, your Alan-jo, as it were...) but it's being drowned out by endless work-chatter and it's keeping you from viewing your world through your usual witty eyes. I've no doubt it'll pass as soon as the workload subsides. I am a firm believer that for the most part, work and creativity do NOT go hand-in-hand...even under the best of circumstances. Too much pressure.

I'm glad to hear you still have a pulse...and if it were a different time of year, I'd ask you to pass the stuffing....but I'm stuffed.

Some days there just isn't a hell of a lot to say, is there. It's good to have a little blogging break every now and then.

Kathryn- Thanks for the positive feedback, very sweet of you.

Danielle- True enough...feels like a lot of days there isn't much to say.

Michael- Ha! I suppose as long as I'm lurking, I'm not jumping! I shall follow your advise.
