Better Late Than Never

Greetings and Happy New Year to you all!

I never imagined that it would take 11 days into the year before I got my act together enough to post. I will attribute this to a number of things...

We only just had snow again Saturday after 2 weeks of nothing. I think that this has me confused (more so than usual for a guy my age) regarding weather matters. We were at +3 Celsius a few days ago. Someone told me that it was the same temperature as Tampa, Florida on that day. I hear that they have had freezing weather this past week, so I will bank on switching from OJ to something like cranberry or prune juice in the near future.

I think, also, that I have been in a bit of a funk since Canada lost to the USA in the World Junior Hockey Championship in Saskatchewan last week. We had won so many in a row that I think everyone takes it for granted that we have hockey supremacy. The US showed a lot of grit and snatched the cup away. Remember, though, that you have football (as in toss the pigskin, not soccer) and basketball and baseball...hockey is our game!

I had also made a bit of a promise after my last posting (my 100th) that I wouldn't post again until I had made progress on a short story that has been swirling about in my brain the past few weeks, since Remembrance Day. I have a lot of work to do on it still, but I at least have made enough progress to report on it and convince me that I still have a blog about writing and not just 'schtuff about that guy up in Canada in that Newfoundland place.'

I would also like to thank Jarmara Falconer over at A Mission Impossible for the Nightwriter for bestowing upon me the One Lovely Blog Award. Those of you who have followed my blog for the past few months will recall that I am a two-time victim winner of this fine award. I was beginning to feel under appreciated as it has been several months since receiving an online award and am happy to accept it. I have been following Jarmara's blog for several months and consider her an emerging writer who is working hard at educating herself, and others, in the craft. She is a fine representative of things Gothic, dark and mysterious and if you haven't dropped into her blog, I encourage you to do so.

I am supposed to pass this on to 15 other blogging friends. I am thinking, though, that most of you who read my blog have also been presented The Lovely Pink Teacup Award within the past few months. If you haven't and are reading my blog (yes, you!) then you are displaying impeccable taste and are therefore more than worthy of this fine award. You are a winner in my books!

Glad to see you surface, Alan.

I do so hate having to go to funerals.

I'm sure you'll stomp us in hockey next time. And the CFL (as in pigskin) is a lot of fun to watch. ;)

Very diplomatic, Sir.

***Happy New Year***

I'm sure that Anton would like another pink award.
Yes, I've been waking up to 0C temps in Florida for the past week. Would you please take your weather back now?
Happy New Year, you fashionably late person. :)

Hockey is indeed our game and we shared your disappointment when our Juniors lost. However, pity those guys on the Olympic hockey team. Just a LITTLE pressure on them!

Happy 2010 and bring on the Olympics!

Haha what Nat said-- we're all winners!

Yeah, that was a bit thoughtless of those American kids, wasn't it? Still, everyone knows it's a temporary blip, and Canada is Hockey Land.

I love Hockey. But I'm from near Pittsburgh, so it's not really optional.

congratulations on the award ;)

I thought you went to Hawaii or something and forgot about posting at your blog :)

What's the new story about?

I was in a fine sulk after Canada lost. It's tough to lose at your own game. But they were a shining example of the hockey talent in the country, so we can't really complain.

Good to see you back. I'm looking forward to reading that story. 'Course, I don't mind the stuff about that Newfoundland place either ;)

Natalie- You said it, sister!

Anton- I hate funerals as well. Especially the shirt and tie stuff...

Aaron- Cool, you get the CFL down in Kansas. I don't watch football, but there are many in Canada that watch the NFL.

Cate- I'm glad that you noticed. In fact, diplomacy is my middle name. Really.

Laura- If I gave Anton another pink teacup, you would have to defend me with your FLAMING SWORD OF DEATH. Yes, we now have the crappy weather back in Newfoundland. Your welcome. Please send oranges before we all die of scurvy here!

Elspeth- Agreed. It's our game and we'll take it back. Some day. I wish that I could be in Vancouver to take in some of the games. I'm now flashing back to '85 when I moved away from Vancouver, just before the Expo happened there. My sense of timimg sucks.

Katey- I wished that I lived near an NHL venue. I probably couldn't afford to go to a game anyway.

Dezz- Thanks. No Hawaiian vacation, I was just being lazy. I will have 2 weeks away in March.

Story is about a young teenager who is bullied in school by other boys and gets help in revenge from those that are dead (yes, a horror story).

Also, that is a nice profile picture! Very William Wallace. But with less hair.

Laurita- As Elspeth noted. We can hope to turn it around at the Olympics. I'm glad to see both Sid Crosby and Corey Perry on the team. I was lucky to see them play each other at the Memorial Cup in London back in 2005.

It's nice to be back. My first thought when writing a short story is 'can I set it on the Rock?'

A horror story? Who would have guessed? :)
The lack of hair is the result of me being evolutionary advanced among my species:) And it's not "William Wallacy", but more of a "Tudorish" picture ;)

Glad you're back! I thought maybe you'd been buried in snow, but obviously you're having Florida-ish temperatures so you're probably just out lying in the sun, right? And tending your new orange trees? :)

So sorry about the hockey game, those dang Americans. Wait, that's me, but I don't count since I don't follow hockey. Don't know why, but ice hockey is only just now beginning to catch on here in Texas. Maybe the heat here?

Congrats on the progress on your story - and I hope you enjoyed your time off from blogging.
