Read This...

A quick update on the writing front. No WIP...but I'm thinkin' about it! (remember, it's the thought that counts--I'm going to use that one on my mother this Sunday for Mother's Day).

My flash horror story 'Unbidden' is up at Laurita Miller's blog Brain Droppings as an honourable mention in her recent Seaside Fiction contest. You can also catch the stories of Barry Northern, Jodi MacArthur, Linda Simoni-Wastila and Lou Freshwater. Congratulations again to winner Lily Mulholland and runners-up Michael Solender and Cathy Oliffe.

Just in case some of you may not have noticed...my tribute/roasting of Anton Gully was posted a couple of days ago. The assembling of the story was a bit involved, so I saved it as a draft and continued the next day. What I didn't know is that when you post something like that it has the date of when you initially saved the post. When the post hit the blogosphere it was already labeled 'one day old' and may have gotten past some of you. Apologies on that. You can just scroll on back to the story or link to it here.

I think that I am safe from physical retribution meted out by his thugs, Patrick Fitzgerald and Gerald Fitzpatrick, as the giant ash cloud from Iceland is grounding flights out of Ireland.

Many thanks to those of you (you know who you are) who used the 'evil Twitter' technology to get the message out to the #Fridayflash people who are familiar with Mr. Gully.

Yeah, I always have to remember to go back and change the time and date on a draft before I post it. You'd think it would be set up to show the post time instead.

Congrats on your story!

You should join the evil Twitter. I know that Karen is now basking in the glory of the dark side. Her tentacles are growing longer too...

"Unbidden" was a nice little tale. I like the final image of the two brothers crossing themselves. ;)

Come and join me in the evil murkdom which is the Twitterverse! It's fun. It can be educational. Added bonus, it's a great way to procrastinate.

Woot on the honorable mention!

Well if that wasn't a sign for them NOT to do what they were speaking of I don't know what would be :P Great story Alan! I liked the blood with the crossing, made things hit home even more.

Congrats on Honorable Mention to you and to the others :D

Laura- Yep, I've got a lot to learn about this modern technology stuff...perhaps one day I will replace my tin cans and string.

Aaron- Thank you, sir.

Elspeth- Ha! Not a good selling feature. I work out of the house, plenty of ways to procrastinate about here.

Nat- Thanks for the woot!

Kara- Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

Danielle- Thanks. I hope the upcomming retreat with your group leads to a good (cemetery) story.

Thanks for the comment over on my blog! How are things in the greatest city on earth? I miss it so much. I have nothing in the can to submit to NOT, and no time to write anything, though if a sudden flash comes today~and that happens sometimes~who knows. I do have one short story that is Newfoundland-centric but it is much too long..not sure where to send it yet..but someday. First novel, set in NL to come out this summer...hoping to have a mini tour at some point..finally...a trip back home that's a write-off! I joined your blog and I'll keep in touch!

Yep, the string is getting a bit ratty Alan. Twitter enjoyed singing your name out over the airwaves. And the tentacles Laura referred to only hurt a little bit RIGHT after they sprout. Well, it's less of a hurt, and more like it stings like a *****....but either way, it's pretty momentary.

You'll like twitter. It's fun. Come join us...you know you want to.....

All is still well on the Rock. Yay for trips that can be written off! Thanks for dropping by, Carolyn.

The good PR via Twitter was a great help while it lasted, Karen. Hope your tentacles are healing well. You know your evil peer pressure won't work on me!

Am beginning to break out in cold sweats...wondering if the silence from Anton Gully is indication of impending doom. I can smell retaliation in the air (perhaps I should shower). Or maybe it's just me, paranoia setting in...must stop listening to the voices...

I read "Unbidden" last week and it made me shiver. Then I came over here to catch up after the weekend and realized I hadn't commented! How rude of me!

Very cool, Alan. Creepy in a tactile way. I love that.
