Progress Delayed by Fog

Day 4 and it's time for a progress report regarding my 'resolutions' for this year (see previous blog post).

  • Basketball was cancelled due to the stat holiday however I did manage to walk the dog for about 20 minutes (paramedics were on standby with oxygen for me).
  • Have not given up junk food on account of there being so many Christmas goodies in arms reach, winking at me. Perhaps I will have better luck with this next week. On a side note: I have gone four days without finding any remnants of food (or as I prefer to say...'midnight snacks') hiding in the forest that is my beard.
  • No writing progress to date this year. Neither short stories nor long term project have made their way from my head to paper. Better luck next week.
  • My fez is still dirty (I hope that didn't sound too weird).
I attribute this to the mental and actual fog that has been hanging about the past couple of days, making my first two days back at work a bit hazy. For example, the photo directly below was from the camera on top of  The Rooms, the provincial museum overlooking the harbour, on Monday afternoon. I have seen better views. Good thing there's not many tourists about this time of year.

The next photo (below) was taken this morning from the same camera. Marginally better--you can actually make out buildings in that one. I really shouldn't be whining about the weather. We could be having the snow Britain is getting this winter. The fog and rain is much easier to deal with. In fact, we only have four more months of winter to go. As I've found in previous years here on The Rock, winter may be delayed for a while but they will eventually hit. Sometimes with a vengeance.

I'll finish here as I've got to get to bed. I'm getting up at about 3:30am to drive my sister to the airport for her 5:00am flight back to Edmonton. Yes, it's an un-godly hour but the Scottish in me won't allow her to pay $20 for the cab ride to the airport. Then again, maybe the fog will make play the wild card in this scenario and we can all sleep in. Here's to hoping that the fog lifts soon!

Alan, our snow is finally melting.....then we're forecast more!! We've had some rain but the temp are about to plummet again. So we are led to believe. Whatever!

Resolutions shouldn't start until all Christmas/New Year food and booze has all gone. I never start mine until at least after the 5th Jan (That's my birthday) I'll then normally carry them out til the following weekend and resort to eating and drinking too much again. LOL!!!

Take care and good luck with getting those words out of your head and onto the page.

It's not the Scottish in you, Alan, it's because you're such a nice guy. Drive carefully in all that fog.
I'd grow a beard, if I could, if it would double as a food storage facility.

And happy birthday, David! I like your idea of waiting to eat less until the Christmas crap is gone.

Fog and drizzle are depressing, like the weather can't make up its mind.
I vote for eating all Christmas goodies until they are gone.
Yes, the fez comment sounds dirty... ;)

You don't mess around with your fog, do you?

David- Something is definately amiss with the weather. You lot getting the snow, us the fog and rain. I like your philosophy on holding off until all the contraband is used up. Happy Birthday, BTW, my friend! *tips a glass of single malt in David's direction*.

Cathy- The fog has lifted this am for the drive to the airport (Psst, don't be spreading about that story about me being a nice guy...) Should have seen my beard 20 years ago when I was travelling abroad...could have hidden a half chicken in there and nobody would have noticed.

Laura- I bet the concept of fog and drizzle is foreign to the folks down in Florida! My mind is always on my fez...

Aaron- The Rock is very familiar with fog, rain, wind, snow and the like. We have only a passing acquaintance with Mr. Golden Sun.

Ahhh fog. At least we don't have to shovel it. Although we did get a little dusting of snow last night just as I was headed to the airport with my parents. Not enough to fire up the snowblower, though. Or even the shovel.

I wonder if there are any at-home fez cleaning services?

I think we can excuse a short delay on the no junk food resolutions at this point. It all dries up near the middle of January, and out of sight, out of mind.

Well, mostly. I still get cravings, but the idea is that by then we'll be chained to our desks taking care of our writing resolutions, and too busy to get up for junk... yeah. That. Right!

Those photos left me thinking--where did the world go? Shudder.

Oh, and I'm better than you because I've given up junk food. :D

The Scottish sound an awful lot like the Chinese ; )

Laurita- A dusting of snow is fine with me. I've tried hiring a number of cleaning people but they don't do windows of fezzes...

Katey- Sure it dries up, except when you buy your junkfood at Costco by the gross...

Yeah, I hope that you're right that my writing will substitute my craving for Terry's Chocolate Oranges...

Cate- Yeah, the top one reminds you of a Stephen King story, doesn't it! You're off the junk food already! What's your secret?

Nat- Yes, probably in a couple of ways...
