Horror Meme

The incomparable Aaron Polson has tagged me in a horror meme over at his blog. Also picked to play were horror writers Jameson T. Caine (whose story 'The Wind Whispers My Name' is up this week at 52 Stitches), Kara McElhinny, Jamie Eyberg and Cate Gardner.

The premise for this meme is simple: If you're tagged, create a blog entry with screen shots from horror films that follow a central theme. Below are my photo selections. I can't say what all of the movies are, but the images are fairly nasty at times. This meme has moved about for a couple of days so I won't bother tagging anybody. Though, if you are a horror buff, consider yourself a tagged for this meme and come up with some horrific images of your own. If you are a dog lover, I recommend you pop over to Wag the Fox who posted a number of photos photos of dogs in horror films.

I'll save you the bother of guessing my theme as it's fairly obvious. In my opinion, the use of children in horror is the subject matter that hits home the most with the viewing public. I think that it touches something primal in the adult viewer, especially if they have small children. The thought of evil happenings to the most vulnerable of our society is most horrific.

I have attached a dozen photos that I found with a few searches on the internet. I'll note here that not all of the photos are from horror films and I'll start with the tamest and move along to the most graphic. Viewer discretion is advised, ladies and gentlemen. Make sure the kids aren't peeking over your shoulder. But keep them near by to give a hug to later. Evil, yet cute

Bad, bad boys

Evil-eyed school children

Partially buried children (Ick)

Cute, yet evil
Eyeless dolls

Young, bloody vampires (Let The Right One In, 2008)

Poor, poor Regan (The Exorcist, 1973)

Black eyes & bloody mouth (this one will give me nightmares tonight)

Evil mother and child dolls

Zombie mother and child-to-be

Black-eyed, bloody and innocent (*sigh* more nightmares)

What the heck is it about kids that is so creepy? Even my own little darlings do great zombie impressions. This was fun, but I'll be sleeping with one eye open tonight.

Great fun, Alan. I, like Laurita, will be sleeping with one eye open. At the moment my kids are in and out of beds, and end up stood at the side of our bed at all hours. I hope I don't scare them if I wake up screaming after reading this post. :-)

Our cat does that, David. My Dave will be sound asleep and sort of rouse around only to be see the big glowing eyes of our fat ginger cat who likes to stare at him at close range in the night.
It never fails to scare the crap out of him.
Alan, those pictures are gross. Ew is right, Natalie.
Laurita - my Uncle Ted used to sleep with one eye open because he had a glass eye. Talk about creeping ya out when you walked by his bedroom and saw that eyeball staring ya down at midnight!

Thank god the sun is coming up here. Your nightmares would become mine otherwise. O_O

Holy jumpin' jesus... those freaked me out.

Laurita- I hear ya. I'm just glad our 'little monster' is away at camp.

David- Hopefully they will let you alone, at least for tonight. Perhap if you wedge your BR door shut with a chair...

Natalie- I nearly spewed coffee when I read that.

Cathy- We should all have a relative with a glass eye. Halloween would be way more entertaining that way.

Mari- I'm not totally sure, but I think some of those kids come out to play in the daytime as well...

Ant- I hear ya. Perhaps you'll have an eye-dea for dressing your boy up this halloween.

We picked the same theme. YAY! Kids are majorly creepy (only in horror films of course).

I agree with Cate, kids are always creepy in horror films. I love it!

Freaky kids...ack! Too much like real life at my house (kidding, of course).

Cate Gardner said...

Look at us choosing the same theme... Though your pictures are far, far creepier.

Nice! x

Cate- Great minds think alike, and all of that! (OK, maybe my mind is a bit gory at times...)

Danielle- Very true.

Aaron- I'm sure that your boys are going to be real horror fans and dressing up in evil costumes at halloween.

Akasha- I am happy that you approve.

Alan...that first doll looks eerily like me as a child. Black curls, ribbons, and all.

:O

Good job i looked at these in the morning! Kids are scary. My old housemate is so scared of small girl's from watching the Ring/the Grudge etc he has completely ruled out ever trying for kids, for fear it may be a girl! I'll be sure to forward these on to him!

I strongly believe that people who use kids in pictures like these should be arrested and forbidden to work ever again. Kids are the most sacred things on Earth and shouldn't be used in taboos like these. Never. Ever. For no reason. Period!

What's even freakier is when you kids laugh in their sleep in the middle of the night. It's pitch black and then suddenly there's this giggle....brrrrrrr.
