Giving Credit...

Does anyone use that blogger feature that can be set to notify you of when someone comments on an old blog post? I think it's a great idea as I wouldn't think to check back on posts to see if there were new comments left. I have mine set to notify me if a comment is left two weeks after the original post.

I received one of those notifications a few days ago about a comment left at a post that was over a year old. You can link to the post here about a woman who was lobbying to have pole dancing as an Olympic sport. I 'borrowed' the clever photo shown on the right from another writer's blog because it both reflected the topic of discussion and tied back to the literary reasons for creating this blog in the first place. Like so many pictures floating out there in cyberspace, though, poor Poe was not properly credited when originally borrowed and I followed suit in using it without knowing its origins.

Wes, of Burbank, CA left a comment informing me that the picture was designed by his wife for their t-shirt company Tattered Star Apparel. Please take a few moments to check out some of their other horror-themed shirt designs. I found the funny little YouTube video below advertising their company at the Tattered Star website.

Umm...it is unknown to me if this is the mysterious Wes and his lovely wife...

There t-shirts are pretty cool! See, that's the great thing about borrowing stuff - you get to hear about companies and products you never would hear about otherwise. If it wasn't for you posting the Poe pole, i never would have seen Tattered Star's awesome shirts. Good deal!

Thanks for the mention! I'm the zombie and the woman's name Cherish. She is a friend of ours. My wife is one of the people behind the camera.

I use that function, too, Alan. Only wish I got more comments on the golden oldies!

I use that feature too, but I keep getting spam comments in Japanese with the occasional English word thrown in, like sex or viagra.
It's great that you gave Wes and Tattered Star Apparel a post in exchange for borrowing the pic. :)

Cathy- No matter how badly you speel, I always get the message. Yep, they've got some cool t-shirt designs.

Wes- Not a problem. Nice video. With an acting debut like that, I'm expecting to see you in the next season of "The Walking Dead".

John- Ya just never know when someone will be searching an odd word like 'Ouroboros' and turn up one of your stories.

Laura- *shocked look* You mean people are trying to peddle sex and Viagra on the web? The plug was the least I could do after borrowing their clever shirt design for a blog post.

It's very nice of you to link them and give proper credit. I too end up "leaning" on other websites that won't link back their pictures and I'd love to have the original owners showing up so I could give proper credit.

Oh, I need some serious t-shirt action, now! :D

Mari- Yeah, I always feel that tinge of guilt when I post a photo that's been floating about the web without a home.

Katey- I could use a couple myself as well...sadly, I where them until they are frayed and wa-fer thin (much to the annoyance of V)

Woah. I think we've all been there..."borrowing" photos without really thinking about where they come from. I always had the thought that who's gonna care if my bitty blog borrows their photo. But gosh...were you all contrite and apologetic? I hope they realize that to get a plug from you is the best way to make things right. Now their company is known the world over.

Alan ...

You bring up a great point about giving credit (which I really have tried to do of late) ... Sometimes, as you know, with stuff floating around so much it can be next to impossible. Nice post...

PS (Sorry I haven't been around much -- been in the writing [and movie watching] cave)
